Recommended Book: "Straight Talk About AD/HD - A Guide to Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder for Irish Parents and Professionals" by William K. Wilkinson. Collins Press, 2003.

This is a new book by Dr. William Wilkinson on AD/HD. Priced at €15.00 this is the first book on AD/HD written for the Irish market. This is a very readable, clear and as the title says, straight talking book. We warmly recommend it to parents and teachers.

Dyspraxia

Some children despite adequate teaching, a stimulating environment and generally normal intellect, have difficulty with movement and specific aspects of learning. Dyspraxia is a difficulty with thinking out, planning and carrying out sensory/motor tasks. Problems can include: poor fine and gross motor co-ordination; difficulties with vision; motor planning and perceptual difficulties; tactile dysfunction; poor awareness of body position in space; difficulty with reading, writing and speech; poor social skills; and emotional and behavioural problems.

Gifted Children

Gifted children are those who learn at a faster pace than their peers. They are often early to talk, early to read and are very curious with a great thirst for knowledge. The Irish Association for Gifted Children (IAGC) provides support for gifted children and their families, liaises with the Dept. of Education and Science, other Government agencies and relevant organisations to promote the needs of gifted children.
