Galway Branch
The Galway Branch of the Dyslexia Association was established in the early 1990s by parents of children with dyslexia
for the purpose of organising special tutoring sessions for the children. It is affiliated to the Dyslexia Association of Ireland,
and all members of the Galway Dyslexia Association are required to be members of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland.
The Galway branch is run by a voluntary committee, consisting for the most part of parents of children with dyslexia.
The contact person for the Galway branch and workshops is Ann Owen Jones at 087 7588258.
The Galway Branch has their own website: www.gada.ie
The Association supports children and their parents, and adults with dyslexia by providing help, information and specialised
classes for children from age seven to Leaving Cert. Children wishing to enrol must have a full psychological assessment which
can be made available to the Association.
Classes are held every Tuesday and Wednesday evening and on Saturdays from (10 a.m. to 12 p.m) Classes are presently held in
the Galway Educate Together NS, in Galway City.
The Association also has a small lending library from which children may borrow books and audio tapes.
The function of the GDA are, among others:
- Running classes for children with dyslexia.
- Running a Summer School.
- Raising awareness of dyslexia among the general population by organising regular public talks on the subject and by running
special classes for parents.
- Lobbying the Department of Education.
- Fund-raising.
If you suspect your child may have dyslexia (Specific Learning Disability/Difficulty) please contact any one of the above committee
members or the Education Director Ann Owen Jones at 087 7588258. We can arrange to meet informally for coffee and a chat.
