Fundraising
The Dyslexia Association of Ireland is a voluntary organisation with charitable status (Registered no. CHY 10044). While we receive some state funding,
this is not guaranteed and in no way covers our costs. Like all charitable organisation we rely greatly on fundraising, and are very grateful for any help received
and all funds raised.
Fundraising is done both locally and nationally:
- At the local level, branches organise local fundraising initiatives, e.g. table quizes, bag-packing in local supermarkets, mini-marathons and fun-runs.
Contact your local branch for information on upcoming local events. See the branches page for a list of contacts.
- At national level, fundraising is organised by the Fundraising Sub-Committee of our National Executive Committee. Our most successful national fundraising events to date
have been the National Game Playing Week events which took place in October 2004 and again in October 2006. They were a great success, raising over €80,000 both years. This money
has been used to provide funded/reduced cost fees for financially disadvantaged children with dyslexia attending DAI workshops.

your donation to support a particular aspect of our work, please let us know.
To all our donors and supporters, a very big thank you.
Donating via the bank: If you would like to make a once-off donation, just call into any bank and ask them to make
your donation. Our bank details are:
A/C Name: Dyslexia Association of Ireland Fundraising Account

A/C No.: 00526235
Sort Code: 93 10 98
If you would like to make a regular donation (e.g. monthly or annually) just ask your bank to set up a standing order.
Regular donations enable us to plan future projects.
Please notify us by post, phone or email if you are making a donation to our account so that we can thank you.
This also enables us to maintain proper financial records by being able to account for all our income.
We do not currently have the facility to take credit card donations.
Postal Donations: You can also post a donation (cheque, postal order or bank draft) to:
Fundraising Committee,
Dyslexia Association of Ireland,
Suffolk Chambers,
1 Suffolk Street,
Legacies: Bequests can be extremely beneficial in supporting our services. If you would like to leave a bequest
in your will, please discuss this with your solicitor. Alternatively, you could request that instead of flowers, people
make a donation to the Dyslexia Association of Ireland.
Tax Relief on Donations: There are a number of tax benefits associated with annual donations of €250+ to registered
charities. This tax relief means that your donation can mean even more to the Dyslexia Association of Ireland. And there is
no limit to how much you can give!
The recipient of the benefit depends on the type of taxpayer making the donation:
1. In the case of PAYE taxpayers, the tax relief is applied at the marginal rate and is paid directly by the Revenue
Commissioners to the Eligible Charity on receipt of the relevant appropriate certificate (an official form is completed by
the donor and the charity receiving the donation). For example, an individual on the standard rate of tax (i.e. 20%) makes
a donation of €500. The value of the donation to the charity = €625. The tax associated with the donation = €125. The charity
will be able to claim a repayment of €125 from the Revenue Commissioners.
2. Individual taxpayers on self-assessment benefit directly from relief at the marginal rate by claiming the donation
as a tax-deductible expense. For example, a self-assessed individual on the standard rate of tax (i.e. 20%) makes a donation
of €500. The cost to the taxpayer is €400. The taxpayer claims a deduction for the donation on his/her tax return.
3. Corporate donors simply claim a deduction for the donation as if it were a trading expense.
So in the first case the tax relief is paid directly to the Charity whilst in cases two and three the donor receives
the tax relief.
This information is taken from the Revenue Commissioner's paper "Scheme of Tax Relief for Donations to Eligible Charities
and other Approved Bodies, Under Section 848A, Taxes Consolidation Act 1997. A full copy of this document is available at
http://www.revenue.ie/leaflets/chy2.doc (WORD document).
The Dyslexia Association of Ireland's registered Charity number is CHY 10044. The Dyslexia Association of Ireland
as an eligible charity is approved to claim tax relief on donations.

A Novel Idea ... Read for Dyslexia
To mark Dyslexia Awareness Month this October, the Dyslexia Association of Ireland is inviting all book clubs
(and other interested groups) to join our Novel Idea ... Read for Dyslexia Campaign. With your
support the Dyslexia Association will be able to provide more specialist tutorial assistance to help people with
dyslexia to discover the joy of reading. How? Every €40 raised will provide one hour of specialist tuition for
a group of people with dyslexia.
Book clubs can help to raise funds in any way they choose, e.g. collecting donations at your next book club
meeting, selling second-hand books, a sponsored reading marathon, a coffee morning, or a book-themed quiz night.
The more novel the idea the better. The most Novel Idea will win a fantastic prize - a visit to your book club/group
by Don Mullan, noted Irish author and human rights campaigner, and book vouchers to the value of €300. Simply complete the registration form (available below)
and tell us your idea!
