DAI European Conference 2007


The Dyslexia Association of Ireland held it's very successful 6th DAI European Conference on Saturday, 20th October, 2007 in the Helix, Dublin City University, Dublin 9.

  • Turlough O'Sullivan, Director General of IBEC (Irish Business and Employers Confederation) gave an excellent opening address "Dyslexia: A Business Perspective".
  • Professor David McLoughlin spoke on "Dyslexia in Adulthood", describing the characteristics of dyslexia as they are manifested in the adult years, including daily living and working.
  • Jo Todd, Key4Learning, UK, gave two presentations on "Achieveing Success in the Workplace":
    Jo Todd Presentation 1 and Jo Todd Presentation 2.
  • Katherine Kindersley spoke on "Individual Training for the Adult at Work".
  • Mary Ball, Psychologist and Education Director, DAI, took us on "The Adventure of Reading". Can we inspire those who find it difficult to get started that the adventure is worth the effort?
  • Margaret Doyle and Sheila Kavanagh, from the Career Paths Course for adults, gave a demonstration of accessible software for adults with dyslexia.
  • Niall Crowley in "Disability Legislation" outlined the relevant legislation on equality, employment and disability as it relates to employers and employees.
  • Ercus Stewart, Senior Counsel, spoke on "Managing Difference". His presentation is in two formats:
    Ercus Stewart Overheads and Ercus Stewart Full Text.
  • Hans-Pauli Christiansen spoke on the Danish experince of running training programmes for adults with dyslexia.
  • Emme Matthews and Mary Wafaie, from the Career Paths Course in Celbridge, spoke about the Irish experience of running training programmes for adults with dyslexia.
  • Wyn McCormack spoke on "Support at Second Level", offering practical information and advice on supporting students with dyslexia through the second level education system.
  • Madeline O'Rourke spoke on "Graduating with Professionalism", focussing on support at third level for students with dyslexia.
